Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige promised us that the villain in Thor: The Dark World would be big. It wasn’t clear if he meant physically big or just big in terms of recognition, but the rumor that is going around tells us that it is the latter (and/or former depending on how you perceive the character), and that it would have fit into Mads Mikkelsen’s physique, had he stayed on to play the villain.
According to an interview with stuntman James Grogan, we could be seeing elves in Thor: The Dark World. And, though just speculation, that could mean we’ll be seeing Malekith the Accursed as the villain.
Here is the exact quote from the interview,
“This is quite random but I was working on Thor 2. I had a load of stunt guys in and the director came in and he said “˜Look, we want you all to be elves,’ and I was like “˜What the hell is an elf anyway?’ and he said “˜I want you all to walk around like these supernatural animals.’
Honestly it was the most ridiculous thing ever but you just have to not be self aware and get on with it.”
Now this leads us to believe that Thor could possibly be facing Malekith. It seems to make sense since The Dark World is the in the subtitle. Again, this is just a speculation and nothing has been confirmed.
According to the Wikipedia page, Malekith has superhuman strength and durability, and possesses dark magical powers which includes teleportation, energy projection, physical malleability, flight (by transforming into mist), illusion casting, and the ability to change the shape and appearance of other beings or objects. He also allies himself with Loki and comes into the possession of the Casket of Ancient Winters (which has been seen in the first film). Something also worth mentioning, since Grogan spoke about having to walk around like supernatural animals, is that one of Malekith’s known aliases is the Master of Hounds.
We should be hearing of someone being cast as the lead villain since filming is expected to begin soon.
Directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones), Thor: The Dark World stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgard, Anthony Hopkins, and Zachery Levi.
