Bradley Cooper has found a way to get a gig in voice acting and a superhero film in one fell swoop, as the actor has landed a role in James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy. We previously reported that the Silver Linings Playbook actor was in negotiations to voice Rocket Raccoon, a fearless the gun-toting raccoon. Now, Marvel has confirmed that a deal has been made, and Cooper will be the voice.
Cooper joins an eclectic cast comprised of Chris Pratt, Benicio del Toro, Zoe Saldana, Glenn Close, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly, Djimon Hounsou, Karen Gillan, Dave Batista,, and a rumored Vin Diesel.
News on whether Diesel is on board to voice Groot has yet to be confirmed. But that hasn’t stopped the actor from talking about his role in the film. Now that Cooper is signed on, we should get confirmation of who will be actually voicing Groot very soon.
No word yet on how long Cooper is contracted for. This is the first original film that is set to appear in the Phase 2 era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and seeing how successful the Marvel brand is now, contracts between then and now are undoubtedly different.
So how do you feel about this? Is Cooper the right fit for Rocket Raccoon?
In the far reaches of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, an unlikely cast of characters including Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Groot and Rocket Raccoon must join forces to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions.
Guardians of the Galaxy will open in theaters on August 1, 2014.
