Aesthetically, the first set of posters for Alex Proyas‘s Gods of Egypt did not look good, and obviously that should not be a representation of the film itself. Often times, it is though. But we should never let the look of posters cloud our judgement, even if this is a pretty white-washed film.
But holding out on the hopes that the film may be actually entertaining seems like a futile effort, especially since the look and feel of this new trailer gives off a wretched whiff of horribly bad CGI backdrops, with equally bad CG effects and even worse CG characters. Check out the full trailer for Gods of Egypt below.
So the trailer is just a harsh reminder of how much a lot of us miss practical sets. Everything that is in this trailer is a representation of how much a CGI created world could kill a film. Adding these CGI characters and their transformations only makes the film suffer even more. It just looks sloppy, and something like the effects team was rushing to get done in order to meet a deadline. Not sure even if the film needs any additional polishing, it’s not like it will even help.
To be quite honest, I’d rather revisit the Universal’s rebooted Mummy trilogy than sit through this. And just in case you missed it, the posters for the film can also be seen below. Thanks to Yahoo!, HitFix, Lionsgate, Teen, EW, and IMDb for the first look at these posters.
Starring Gerard Butler, Brenton Thwaites, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Courtney Eaton, Elodie Yung, Chadwick Boseman, and more, Gods of Egypt arrives February 26, 2016.
Magic, monsters, gods and madness reign throughout the palaces and pyramids of the Nile River Valley in this action-adventure inspired by the classic mythology of Egypt. With the survival of mankind hanging in the balance, an unexpected hero takes a thrilling journey to save the world and rescue his true love. Set (Gerard Butler), the merciless god of darkness, has usurped Egypt’s throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. With only a handful of heroic rebels opposing Set’s savage rule, Bek (Brenton Thwaites), a bold and defiant mortal, enlists the aid of powerful god Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in an unlikely alliance against the evil overlord. As their breathtaking battle against Set and his henchmen take them into the afterlife and across the heavens, both god and mortal must pass tests of courage and sacrifice if they hope to prevail in the spectacular final confrontation.
