| Bytes: Nacho Libre Pushed Back |
- The release date for the comedy NACHO LIBRE, starring Jack Black and directed by Jared Hess (NAPOLEON DYNAMITE), has been pushed back to June 16.
- The animated cast of the long-running TV series THE SIMPSONS will finally get their big screen break when THE SIMPSONS MOVIE opens on July 27, 2007. A teaser movie trailer featuring Homer Simpson was previewed on Friday at the opening of ICE AGE: THE MELTDOWN as well as during Sunday’s TV episode of The Simpsons.
- Freddy Krueger actor Robert Englund will direct KILLER PAD, a horror-comedy about three friends who refuse to believe their new house in the Hollywood Hills has a dark history.
- Diminutive actor Peter Dinklage has been cast as an evil scientist in the live-action UNDERDOG movie from Disney.
- Thomas Jane will play a 23rd-century soldier leading the humans in a fight against an army of underworld “NecroMutants” led by John Malkovich in the sci-fi thriller THE MUTANT CHRONICLES, scheduled to be released in 2007.
- Richard Dean Anderson is returning to STARGATE SG1 for the Sci Fi series’ 200th episode this summer. Anderson, who plays “General Jack O’Neill,” will also appear on other episodes throughout the season.
- The Cartoon Network has obtained exclusive rights to 26 half-hour episodes of a new FANTASTIC FOUR animated series. The weekly series will begin airing on the network’s spin-off channels this fall.
- Science fiction writer Stanislaw Lem died March 27 from heart disease in his home city of Krakow, Poland. He was 84. He penned the 1961 novel SOLARIS, which was adapted for the 2002 Steven Sodebergh film starring George Clooney.
- Richard Fleischer, 89, who directed 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA, SOYLENT GREEN, CONAN THE DESTROYER, and RED SONJA, died March 25 in Los Angeles. His father was animator Max Fleischer.
