Bytes: Look Up in the Sky!

LOOK UP IN THE SKY: THE AMAZING STORY OF SUPERMAN, a full-length documentary by Kevin Burns (The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy) tracing Superman’s comic-book origins as well as the various movie and TV spinoffs, is scheduled for release on DVD on June 20, according to Scifi.com. Superman Returns director Bryan Singer produced the film.
Thomas Haden Church, who will play Sandman in SPIDER-MAN 3, revealed in an interview with MSN Movies that Venom will appear in the film. Rumor has it that the alien symbiote will be played by That ï¿½70s Show star Topher Grace.
Jeff Bridges will play a druggie rock star who moves in with his imaginative young daughter into an isolated farmhouse in TIDELAND, based on the book by Mitch Cullen, according to Scifi.com. Terry Gilliam, who last worked with Bridges on 1991’s The Fisher King, will direct.
Jeff Bridges is pretty busy. The actor will lend his voice to the animated flick SURF’S UP, about a penguin (voiced by Shia LaBeouf) who enters an annual penguin surfing competition, according to Scifi.com. Zooey Deschanel (Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) will also be part of the voice cast. The movie is scheduled for release on June 8, 2007.
Apparently the Bean movie wasn’t bad enough. Rowan Atkinson will start work on a sequel, BEAN 2, next month.
The comic book R.I.P.D, about a police force that fights the undead, is coming to the big screen with Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin behind the camera.
Kiefer Sutherland says a 24 movie is in the works. You won’t have to spend a day in the theater, though — the film version would be condensed into a two-hour running time.
Donald Sutherland and Sissy Spacek are terrorized by a malicious unseen entity in AN AMERICAN HAUNTING, which opens nationwide May 5.
Kate Winslet will star in GNOMEO AND JULIET, an animated take on the Shakespearian classic set in the world of tacky garden gnomes. Miramax Films and Sir Elton John‘s Rocket Pictures will develop and produce the film, and John will collaborate with lyricist Tim Rice on songs for the movie.
Jeff Daniels will play a self-help guru in MAMA’S BOY, which stars Jon Heder as the loser son of Diane Keaton.
AquamanTV has a promo photo of the AQUAMAN TV series, which will star Justin Hartley (formerly of NBC’s daytime soap Passions) and premiere on the CW network in the fall.
Molly Ringwald will appear on the May 1st episode of NBC’s MEDIUM.
Twenty series from the vaults of Filmation are coming to DVD. The first titles, SHE-RA: PRINCESS OF POWER and THE NEW ADVENTURES OF FLASH GORDON, are coming in July, and GHOSTBUSTER will follow later in the year.
