It seems those reports about JJ Abrams directing a new STAR TREK movie have been premature.
In an interview with EmpireOnline, the creator of LOST and director or MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 3 says, “The whole thing was reported entirely without our cooperation. People learned that I was producing a Star Trek film, that I had an option to direct it, they hear rumors of what the thing was going to be and ran with a story that is not entirely accurate.”
Also, reports that the film would concern a young Kirk and Spock at Starfleet Academy seem to be unfounded. But Abrams wouldn’t say what the 11th Star Trek film is about. “We’ve made a pact not to discuss any specifics.” He did hint that the original characters could make another appearance on the big screen. “Those characters are so spectacular. I just think that, you know, they could live again.”
