The official site for The Golden Compass allows users to create their own daemon with a new interactive “Meet Your Daemon” feature.
The official Web site for New Line Cinema’s fantasy film The Golden Compass launched an interactive feature called Meet Your Daemon.
The “Meet Your Daemon” activity asks users 20 personality questions that are then used to formulate which daemon (pronounced dee-mon) best fits their demeanor. The resulting avatar created can then be downloaded as desktop wallpaper or AIM logo as well as embedded into a personal Web site or MySpace page. (That’s the daemon created for me at right; view my animated avatar after the jump.)
In the film, based on the first book of Philip Pullman‘s His Dark Materials trilogy, a daemon (pronounced dee-mon) is the animal spirit that embodies a human’s soul, accompanying them throughout their life. While a child’s daemon can change its shape, in adulthood, the daemon will settle on one form based on their human’s character and nature.
Gordon Paddison, Executive Vice President, New Media Marketing said about the “Meet Your Daemon” feature:
“You can identify your daemon and then share it with your friends and social networks on a variety of digital platforms.”
The Golden Compass, which stars Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Ian McShane, and Dakota Blue Richards, hits theaters December 7, 2007.
