Sean Connery, who played the father of Indiana Jones, says he’s having too much fun in his retirement to come back to work on fourth movie installment.
Actor Sean Connery announced today that he will not reprise his role as the father of Indiana Jones in the fourth installment of the movie franchise from director Steven Spielberg and producer George Lucas, according to IndianaJones.com.
The actor, born in 1930, was 59 years old when he played Dr. Henry Jones, Sr., the lovable dad of Harrison Ford‘s early 20th century title adventurer in 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. That’s five years younger than Ford, who returns as the action hero in the upcoming movie, is now.
Connery, who retired in 2005, had the following to say about deciding not to come out of retirement for the sequel:
“I get asked the question so often, I thought it best to make an announcement. I thought long and hard about it and if anything could have pulled me out of retirement it would have been an Indiana Jones film. I love working with Steven and George, and it goes without saying that it is an honor to have Harrison as my son. But in the end, retirement is just too damned much fun. I, do however, have one bit of advice for Junior: Demand that the critters be digital, the cliffs be low, and for goodness sake keep that whip by your side at all times in case you need to escape from the stunt coordinator! This is a remarkable cast, and I can only say, ‘Break a leg, everyone.’ I’ll see you on May 22, 2008, at the theater!”
Lucas had said he hopes to keep the film’s official title a secret until the trailer premieres in theaters this Thanksgiving, though some reports rumor the title to be Indiana Jones and the City of God.
Indy 4, which along with Ford, stars Cate Blanchett, Shia LaBeouf, Ray Winstone, and John Hurt, hits theaters May 22, 2008.
