Soundtrack.net has an exclusive first listen of the original motion picture soundtrack of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, complete with sound clips and descriptions of each track.
Behind the score this time around is British film and televison composer Nicholas Hooper, a relative unknown in the United States. Hooper, who won a BAFTA Award for Original Score in 2004 for The Young Visiters, takes over for Patrick Doyle, who did the Goblet of Fire score. John Williams, the award-winning composer best known for this work on the Star Wars saga, did the first three Harry Potter movies.
Like Doyle, Hooper composed his own themes, but intergrated Williams’ “Hedwig’s Theme” in his own score, which was performed by The Chamber Orchestra of London.
I wonder if there will be anything on this score that will rival the John Williams-penned “Something Wicked This Way Comes” from the third movie, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which is by far my favorite track of all the Harry Potter films. So far, I like what I’ve heard of the sound clips for the fifth movie, particularly track listings #6, #8 and #12, and especially the opening tune which features electric guitar (!).
NOTE: I purposely did NOT mention the track titles, as some of them are spoilers.
The album runs 52-minutes in length (leaving over an hour of score unreleased) and will be available stores on July 10, 2007 (available for pre-order now). The film will be in theaters on July 11, 2007.
