UGO has the exclusive for the trailer for Prom Night, Screen Gems’s upcoming remake of the 1980s slasher film, which hits theaters April 11, 2008.
Brittany Snow, who starred in the recent Hairspray remake, stars in Prom Night, along with Johnathon Schaech (That Thing You Do!), Dana Davis (Heroes), Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights), Jessica Stroup, and Ming-Na.
I don’t know how “horror” this remake is going to be, considering that Snow told MTV that the new PG-rated film is “more of a thriller,” and that “there’s no blood, guts or gore.”
Also, aside from the name of the film and that there are killings during a nighttime prom, it seems like the update will have little in common with the R-rated original, a cult horror classic which starred Jamie Lee Curtis and Leslie Nielsen. Snow revealed that her character’s teacher is in love and obsessed with her and stalks her to her prom where he “starts wreaking havoc on everyone.”
And guess what? The call is coming from inside the house!
While I’m sure my teen nieces and nephews will dig it, I think I’ll sit this one out.
Synopsis
Donna’s senior prom is supposed to be the best night of her life, one of magic, beauty, and love. Surrounded by her best frinds, she should be safe from the horrors of her past. But when the night turns from magic to murder there is only one man who could be responsible…the man she thought was gone forever. Now, Donna and her friends must find a way to escape the sadistic rampage of a killer, and survive their Prom Night.
Oh dear.
That looks generic.
