Marlon Wayans has signed on to star in G.I. Joe, while Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in negotiations to join the cast of Paramount’s big-screen live-action adaptation based on the American soldier action figure created by Hasbro, according to Variety.
The report states that Wayans will play the role of Ripcord, leader of the GIJOE (Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity) Brussels-based military unit, a high-tech co-ed group of operatives who battle against the evil arms-dealing organization COBRA.
Sienna Miller signed on to the film in November as The Baroness, while Ray Park (The Phantom Menace) will play Snake Eyes. Also starring are Rachel Nichols as Scarlett, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Heavy Duty, Said Taghmaoui as Breaker, and Byung-hun Lee as Storm Shadow.
The Stephen Sommers-directed film is scheduled to begin shooting in Los Angeles next month and will hit theaters on August 7, 2009.
Stuart Beattie penned the war-themed story, which takes place 10 years in the future. Paul Lovett, David Elliot, and Skip Woods contributed earlier drafts of the script.
Earlier reports on the film stated the character Duke would lead GIJOE, and that while the movie will feature characters and locations from around the world, the team will not based in Brussels but rather in the “Pit” as they were throughout the 1980s comic book series.
Oh man. I hope they don’t mess this up.

Stuart Beatie’s got a pretty good track record (Collateral, 30 Days of Night), and I’m thinking if Stephen Sommers can tap into some of that Mummy magic, this could be a fun flick.

This could be a lot of fun.

Didn’t any of you see Scary Movie/2/3/4 or Little Man? Including Marlon Wayans with an iffy concept is a recipe for a terrible movie.
Excepting Collateral.
