After director Mark Romanek quit The Wolf Man last week, which brought much speculation on who would replace him, Universal has chosen Joe Johnston to helm the $100 million horror remake.
Johnston last directed Hidalgo, and previously helmed Jumanji, Jurassic Park III, The Rocketeer, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Johnston worked at LucasFilm and served as art director on the original Star Wars trilogy and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
The Andrew Kevin Walker-penned film, which stars Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, and Emily Blunt, begin production in London in March and will be released in theaters early 2009.
