Ok, here we go. We’ve got some news about the Hellraiser remake.
First, it’s release is being pushed back four months from September ’08 to January ’09.
Second, STYD reports that those two dudes who wrote Project Greenlight’s Feast, and more recently Saw IV and the upcoming Saw V, Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, have been signed on by the Weinstein Company to throw their odd brand of clickty-clack onto the upcoming Hellraiser remake.
I’m not sure how I feel about this one. Maybe if I break it down some it’ll help me work it through.
Ok, I thought that Feast was a lot of fun, but I attribute that directly to John Gulager’s ability to squeeze blood from a stone. I really liked how that fella put that movie together. ‘Cause if we’re being honest here, we all know that Feast was nothing special as far as the horror genre is concerned. It had its pop-up video like winks and generic character naming convention, but beyond that my enjoyment came entirely from the camera work and pacing.
Then we have Saw IV. I know I’m surely in the minority here, but I actually thought it was a really clever film and probably the best since the first Saw. Yes, I also know that’s not saying a whole helluva lot, but whatever. It wasn’t that bad.
So, what the fuck am I supposed to make of this announcement? Ahh, who knows. Without Clive Barker penning the script chances are this remake is going to lick the taint of a dead goat no matter who writes it. Seriously, we’ve all seen what happens to Hellraiser movies when Clive Barker isn’t involved. Isn’t that right, Royce? Ok, you didn’t like the first one either, but on that one, you might be in the minority.
I like Feast too.
The makers of this film are going to be in for a world of hurt.
Dr. Clemens is going to go after them.
