Battlestar Galactica fans (myself included) have been in a sort of bittersweet mood these past couple months or so. On one hand, the show is starting back up soon after a long, long wait and a massive “But I have so many questions!” ending to the 3rd season. On the other hand, this is the final season, and when it’s done, it’s done for good. Or is it?
As a little appetizer to the 4th season, a prequel was released called Battlestar Galactica: Razor, which dealt with a familiar storyline to fans and also added some answers to the Season 3 conclusion as well as set up some storylines for the new season. This was appreciated and enjoyed by many, as such a long wait was a lot to ask for.
Now comes word via THR that there will be even more to look forward to after the show ends. The SCIFI Channel has announced yet another prequel, Caprica, which is set 50 years before the current Galactica time frame. The prequel has been in development since April of 2006 (see Galactica to Spinoff Caprica).
Apparently they’ve “greenlighted a two-hour pilot for the prequel”, which is a little confusing to me. Will it be another movie like Razor was, or is this just the pilot to another whole season that just takes place in a different time? I assume it’s just a movie, but who knows!
In case you’re wondering, yes, Ronald D. Moore and David Eick — the geniuses behind this series — are indeed involved and it’s been being worked on for two years now. For now, fans, sit back and enjoy the chaos of the new season.
The 4th season of Battlestar Galactica premiers on April 4th. The show stars Edward James Olmos, Jamie Bamber, Katee Sackhoff, Mary Mcdonnell and Tricia Helfer.
