A quick bit of sequel news for you Transformers nuts out there.
IESB has caught rumor that we may be meeting a few Constructicons this time around; specifically — Bonecrusher, Scrapper, Long Haul, Scavenger, Hook, and Mixmaster. Six bots who when combined, create a gigantic monster known oh so lovingly as Devastator.
Now, in case you haven’t seen the first movie, be warned, the next paragraph may contain a little spoilerage, but I’ll do my very best to keep it unspecific.
For those of us who have seen, we know that one of the aforementioned six was in the first movie and had a little tiny bit of a mishap, making this announcement a little confusing. I’m also pretty sure that one of the bigger machines in the first movie was called Devastator, and it wasn’t this Devastator, so complications apply. Most just assume that things will be renamed.
Apparently someone didn’t really organize their Transformers very efficiently and now has a silly problem to deal with. Maybe there’s reason to all of this, but what could it be? Most likely just greediness in using certain names to bait people in for the first, and now with the sequel coming, it becomes an awkward woopsie. What do I know though. There are bigger fans than I who I’m sure are a lot more agitated by it all.
Michael Bay wrote a kind of “outline” draft of the script which the normal writers are now working on. Transformers 2 is looking to start production this summer.
All in all, expect massive robot goodness.
Check out the size comparison image over at /Film to see the estimation on how much bigger Mr. Devastator may be! Our thanks to Bumblebee for his assistance.
No dinobots WTF! They were lame, those dinobots.

“There are bigger fans than I who I’m sure are a lot more agitated by it all.”
Count me as one of them! I can’t wait to hear what names they’ll steal from other characters to use as substitutes, and I shudder to think what the redesign will look like.

So you are saying there will be no Dinobots? What about that giant butthole that ate planets from the movie will he be in it? I think it was called Unicron Unicorn or something like that.

You know, I have no idea what to think on this one right now.
I liked the first film, but was never hardcore about it growing up, but I will take the comments from my Mentors above as the real deal.

You know, I was a huge fan back in the day, and let a few things slip in the latest movie, but really get annoyed when they try to make amends for their craptastic short term view of the series. Hello? Did you not plan for a sequel that had any familiar characters? Modernizing is one thing, but completely reinventing characters? It’s pretty disgusting. I can understand a producers modern approach to film making, but gutting a cult classic from the start is suicidal.
Idiots.

“one of the bigger machines was called Devastator…” that sort of thing is was really turned me off to the first movie. I was a big fan of the cartoon when I was a kid, but in the movie I couldn’t tell who was who or what was what. Since hardly any of the robots talked, and many of the “Characters” were on screen for all of 5 minutes with no intro or backstory… the movie was more like “oh, there’s a robot, I assume he’s a decepticon, oh wait, now he’s dead. I wonder who he was”. Starscream was indistinguishable from anyone else, Megatron didn’t show up till late and then didn’t do anything… I dunno. I’m probably not supposed to rant too much here, but the first movie was just a bunch of stuff blowing up. 3 days after I saw it I couldn’t remember much from it. All I remember was that the sound was really good, and that bumblebee was very yellow. He and Prime were pretty much the only guys easily recognizable. I dunno, I’m hoping the sequel will be better.

Yeah. I LOVE action movies, but I thought Transformers 2 was a little weak. Although the mom was fricken hilarious, the second half of the movie got boring. The big, climatic fight at the end wasn’t very climatic at all, and it went on so long that the special effects weren’t really special anymore. heh. I’ve never really been a fan of the special effects shots, anyway. There are way too many close shots where you have no idea wtf is going on. When they had bumblebee transform like half way through the movie, the camera angle was from far away, and it looked gorgeous. I wish more of the movie had been like that. sigh. But yeah, I did have fun with the movie though…. I just understand why lots of critics hated it. Anyway, nice post. :)
