Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, spoke recently about the films on Marvel’s upcoming film slate — Thor, Iron Man 2, and two Avengers movies.
Feige confirmed that yes, that IS part of Captain America’s shield we see in the background of Tony Stark’s workshop in Iron Man (see “˜Iron Man’ and “˜Incredible Hulk’ Tip Hat to “˜Captain America’). Feige was also the one that confirmed at the New York Comic Con that the blue serum seen in The Incredible Hulk ties in with Captain America.
Speaking about the Captain America movie, The First Avenger: Captain America due out on May 6, 2011, Feige said that the story will follow that of the comic book as a World War II period piece and that Captain America will be a lead in to the Avengers movie, which will be released on July 1, 2011.
And no, Matthew McConaughey will NOT be playing Captain America.
Lastly, Feige plans to announce who the new director for Thor will be “later this summer” and that Mark Protosevich is expected to submit the script in a couple of weeks. As has been previously reported, the Thor movie, due out on June 4, 2010, will take place mainly in Asgard.
