‘Benjamin Button’ International Teaser Trailer

Benjamin ButtonA Spanish teaser trailer is now online for David Fincher‘s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, the big-screen adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald short story.

Watch it here below!

Don’t worry if you don’t understand Spanish, there’s only a few seconds of narration at the beginning and a few seconds at the end; otherwise, there’s no dialogue in this trailer.

If you know the story behind Benjamin Button — which made my Books To Film 2008 list of books to read before seeing the movie this year — the trailer will make a little more sense. Brad Pitt stars as the titular character, born strangely into the world as an old man who then ages in reverse.

The English-language trailer is running this weekend in theaters before showings of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, so you can catch it then, too.

I’ve been anxiously awaiting a trailer for this film, because I couldn’t imagine how the filmmakers would pull off the reverse aging without it looking silly. I had a real fear — unfounded yes, but real — that somehow they would turn this into a screwball comedy and I just cringed at the thought of that. From what I’ve seen of this trailer, it looks like they’ve done well, wisely gearing the film towards the fantastical and whimsical — think Edward Scissorhands meets Forrest Gump. Not surprising since screenwriter Eric Roth also adapted Forrest Gump for the big screen.

This under two-minutes trailer does the job of pulling at our heartstrings perfectly. This might just be Brad Pitt’s greatest performance to date, and possibly Oscar-worthy.

A coming soon page also went live, where you can register for updates and hear a snippet of the music from the trailer, which I’m hoping will end up being in the film and on its soundtrack.

The film also stars Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton, and Julia Ormond. While the film’s site just says Christmas as the release date, the official date so far is December 19, 2008.

  1. Pitt and Fincher means good things. Plus Swinton, Blanchett and Ormond is pretty sweet too.
