I’m very confused in all this Nottingham madness. Nothing seems to be officially confirmed nor denied in any way, shape, or form, so who knows what’s really going down.
There’s been some rumors circulating about who might join Russell Crowe and Sienna Miller in Ridley Scott‘s Nottingham in the role of Robin Hood. (Miller’s casting as Maid Marion was confirmed last week.)
First there’s the rumor that Ridley Scott wants Christian Bale for the role, but that seems to not be believed by most. Now some rumors are circulating that Russell Crowe has a choice of his own for the role in Sam Riley, who was very much liked in a movie called Control. I’ve not seen this movie or seen Mr. Riley act, so I can’t tell if he’s as good for the role as I would think Bale is, but he seems to have a lot of positive feedback behind him.
Again, neither of these are official, but it seems like the latter is a more likely scenario. If indeed both Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe have their picks, I have to assume that Ridley would win out, PLUS, Bale is going to bring a hell of a lot more interest (and profit) to this movie. However, if those rumors are fabricated, look for Sam Riley to be the front-runner.
Don’t move, confirmation or denial of these rumors should come swiftly.
Nottingham will be a twist on the original tale, shifting the hero role from Robin Hood to Russell Crowe’s Sheriff of Nottingham who’s in a love triangle with Maid Marian and Robin Hood.
The film, which will be produced by Brian Grazer, will be penned by Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris and is scheduled for a November 6, 2009 release.

Riley would be a very interesting choice for the role.
I loved him in Control, but this would be a huge step up for him.

It’s all rumor at this point, with both Riley and Bale touted as being the choice to play Robin, but both claims originated with that old favorite source… “anonymous”.
Robin might be either, or neither.

How did someone with such contemptible morals get the part of “Maid Marion”? This part has got to be quite a reach for her! She can’t act her way out of a paper bag so how will she pull off the maid part? A maid indeed, she hasn’t been a maiden since the age of 10. No one will pay to see a flick with this tramp. All her other pictures have lost money and this one will too!
