In what is simply another step in a groundbreaking new viral advertising campaign, Gotham Cable News has released a new Gotham Tonight with Mike Engel episode, featuring an interview with Harvey Dent.
Warner Bros. has really turned up the heat for their viral marketing campaign to spread word about The Dark Knight, and that has included having Anthony Michael Hall star as Mike Engel, host of Gotham Tonight, on the Comcast channel Gotham Cable News. Each episode — including the Gotham Tonight episodes hosted by Lydia Filangeri, played by someone I still can’t peg down — leads in some way directly to the release of The Dark Knight.
The latest, an interview with Harvey Dent, played by Aaron Eckhart includes a “Breaking News Story” in which Mike Engel crosses to Lydia Filangeri who is at the scene of a bank robbery, being conducted by men wearing clown masks. For anyone who has seen the trailer for TDK, no prizes for whose men these are.
Another thing that I noticed as I watched the latest episode was the defacing of the GCN website by the Joker. Spattered with red “HA HA HA’s” and with clever additions to change, for example, the “Batman Sightings” link to “Batman Droppings: Look out Below!”
Either way, we’re now under 24 hours away from the first screenings, and I’ll be hitting the cinema, 9:30am in Victoria, Australia, to view a movie that, I believe, will soon be toted as the greatest film ever (or at least greatest modern day film. Seriously, how do you beat Singing in the Rain!?).
