This is one way to keep your name in the news: never actually confirm your projects!
Peter from /Film asked me if I had noticed the bit about Brett Ratner in the press release for RoboCop (see Darren Aronofsky To Direct “˜RoboCop’). Even though I had read the press release, somehow my eyes skipped right over the part that mentions that Ratner is attached to direct God of War.
Back in May, we reported that Ratner said he might be working on an adaptation of the popular video game. But since, there’s still been no news and no official confirmation.
Why Ratner made it into the RoboCop release was because David Self, who penned the God of War script, will also write Aronofsky’s RoboCop.
Is this an official confirmation? At this point, it’s probably not safe to say, but it’s definitely one step closer to a reality.
David Self’s credits include 13 Days and Road To Perdition. He wrote God of War for Universal, to which Brett Ratner is attached to direct, and was a writer on Universal’s Wolfman currently in production. He is represented by UTA and attorney Karl Austen.
Gods of War would be very cool but like most adaptation, it depends who directs it. I put my vote in for Zack Snyder, director of 300 and the upcoming flick – The Watchmen. Damn – this guy has some crazy but awesome creative visions and takes on stories.

Finally, a video game that could make a great movie!
Video game? Great movie?
“We can’t be having that now, can we? Get me Brett Ratner!”
