As any true fan of the original movie knows, a sequel to the legendary 1985 adventure movie The Goonies has been talked about for over a decade now. Rumors fly, they stutter, they stall and they die, only to be re-born a couple years later. This has gone on and on and on.
Now comes word from Clint Morris over at MovieHole that “the talks” have come up again, and that this time, it might not just be talk! Now, to make sure I don’t take away from the potential of this report, here it is in full-quote form:
A very, very, very good source – if I revealed his name, you’d know straight away this was a solid bit of news – informed me a few days ago that “the sequel Corey Feldman has been telling media will never happen”, one “Goonies 2″, is indeed”¦ happening.
Along with this, MovieHole also reports that Warner says that it’s giving this the respect it deserves with a big theatrical release, no straight-to-DVD silliness, AND that a source at WB confirmed all of this!
Whether or not this does end up playing out, you have to think it’s a lot more reliable sounding bit than the random, made-up stuff we’ve grown used to when it came to a Goonies sequel; although, Cinematical attempted to confirm the story and could not.
The big question is how do you want to see it done? Some rumors said that it would only involve some of the cast, some said it would involve all and some said it would involve the original Goonies’ children and their own adventure. Me personally, I don’t want this big spectacle to make up for the years of rumor; I just want as many of the cast back as I can get, re-united for another adventure to take them away from their boring everyday lives. Maybe a tie-in to One-Eyed Willy that’s in another part of the world. I’m simple and don’t require much. Give me the real Goonies and a good, solid story at a cool location and I’m on board.
Either way, we still have The Goonies comic book miniseries sequel, Goonies: The Search for Sloth, to look forward to.
