Whether it’s the fact that the movie-gods have an unhealthy obsession with chihuahua’s or moviegoers have just gotten sick of seeing good movies, Beverly Hills Chihuahua has once again taken top spot at the box office this weekend.
Starring the voice talents of such luminaries as Andy Garcia, Cheech Marin, Edward James Olmos , and Jamie Lee Curtis, not to mention Drew Barrymore, the movie once again nabbed number one with a total take of $17.5 million.
Spots two and three went to two newcomers, thankfully. Quarantine managed itself $14.2 million and Body of Lies an equally respectful $13.1 million.
Starring Steve Harris and Jennifer Carpenter, Quarantine is another virus movie, that sees the two lead actors as a reporter and her cameraman attached to a LA fire station late shift, responding to a 911 call.
Body of Lies had enough star power to suggest it should have done better. With Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe filling out the top two spots, the movie based on Washington Post columnist David Ignatius‘s 2007 novel about CIA operative Roger Ferris is definitely on my “to watch” list.
Eagle Eye and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist filled out the top 5. The other two newbies, The Express and City of Ember, pulled in spots 6 with $4.7 million and 10 with $3.2 million.
Thanks again goes to Box Office Mojo for weekend statistics.
