Here’s a bit of hypothetical fun, just to end off your weekend with.
For those who don’t know, while director Steven Spielberg liked Harrison Ford best for the role of Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark, writer/creator/producer George Lucas didn’t want to cast him because he had already appeared in Lucas’s American Graffiti and Star Wars. The next choice to play Indy was Tom Selleck, but thankfully for us, he decided not to due it due to a commitment to Magnum P.I. that ultimately didn’t even start filming until after Raiders had wrapped. Ah, fate.
To have a little fun with the thought of another actor as Indy, someone decided to make a Raiders of the Lost Ark poster with Selleck front and center as the star. You can click the image to see the poster full-sized, and be sure to share your thoughts on how Tom looks as Indy below!
Selleck wasn’t the only name included in the Indiana Jones origins story, either. As we noted in our 12 Craziest Casting Close-Calls, people like Jack Nicholson, Chevy Chase, Nick Nolte, Steve Martin, and Bill Murray were all offered the role. Martin instead chose to make Pennies from Heaven, and Murray actually had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with Saturday Night Live.

I’m so glad that Harrison Ford got the role. It’s hard to imagine the other candidates with the fedora. The movie could be quite forgettable without Han Solo in it. :)
