Fans of Tommy Wiseau‘s so-bad-it’s-oh-so-good cult classic, The Room, will be thrilled to know that you have not seen the last of the movie’s offerings.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly recently, Wiseau confirmed that he has full intentions of releasing The Room not only on Blu-ray with lots and lots of behind-the-scenes features, but that he also plans on giving the movie a full 3D makeover, complete with a theatrical re-release.
Wiseau spoke about the conversion, saying “The process is very detail-oriented. But we want to do it because I’m obsessed about 3D right now, if you ask me.” He even touched on his own gluteus maximus and its three-dimensional inclusion, adding “My bottom will have to be in 3-D because I’m not changing anything, so you’ll be very close.”
The writer, director, producer, and actor went on to say that the hope is for the Blu-ray release to come before next Christmas, followed by the 3D theatrical re-release in either late 2011 or early 2012.
Wiseau even revealed plans for a brand new clothing line, which might not be quite as exciting to fans. He made the announcement saying “I’ll be designing underwear, as well as jackets, as well as sportswear. I have the skills. I know how to design. Of course, it will be my face on some of the clothes; it’ll be my name on it. It will be “˜Designed by Tommy Wiseau.'”
There you have it. By the end of 2011, you can own The Room on Blu-ray before heading out to see it in 3D…while wearing the man’s underwear, to boot.
If you’ve yet to see this thing, make a point to do so immediately. Have a bunch of friends over, drink heavily, and let the magic take care of itself.
