Still upset by the departure of Battlestar Galactica? Well, while it’s not on its way back, showrunner Ronald D. Moore sure as hell is.
Deadline is reporting that ABC has picked up a new series from Moore, entitled Hangtown. A western, the series is created by Moore and his Caprica writer Matt Roberts. The series will follow the story of “a frontier town that’s begun rapidly expanding with the coming of the railroad. It centers on three characters: the Marshal, a Matt Dillon/Clint Eastwood type who prefers to solve crimes by his instinct; a young doctor from the East Coast who is interested in using the new field of forensics to solve crimes; and a young woman writer who is trying to sell dime novels to the publishing houses in New York about crime in the Wild West. Every week the instincts of the Marshal, the science of the doctor, and the young woman’s drive to tell a rousing good yarn to her editors combine to solve crimes in a wide-open, lawless town.”
Obviously, while it’s not a new BSG, this is a really intriguing bit of news, and should make for one hell of a series. I’m a huge Moore fan and a huge fan of Westerns, so the marriage could be one of masterful proportions. If there is one man who can deliver on this hype too, it’s Moore. Count me in.

Be nice to have a worthwhile Western again, but being on ABC doesn’t actually inspire. On HBO? Yes please.

Too bad it’s not going to be on a cable network instead of ABC.
