Ever since Todd Howard made millions of gamers squeal with joy at the announcement of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, we’ve waited patiently for that 11/11/11 release date to finally arrive.

Now it’s only a couple short months away, and the various trailers and demos that we’ve seen of the game have shown us that this could just be the biggest and best game ever made.

With a game of that size, many assumed that Skyrim might end up on multiple discs when it comes to the Xbox 360 version, much like we saw with Mass Effect 2 and L.A. Noire. But Bethesda has a little surprise for us, with art director Matt Carofano confirming that Skyrim will, in fact, be on one single Xbox 360 disc.

This is good news for most fans who dislike having to get up and change discs, but at the same time, it’s also got other fans worrying. Will a game the size of Skyrim be able to deliver the same level of quality the PC and Blu–ray friendly PS3 versions will, or will we see a lower quality game.

The previous Elder Scrolls title, Oblivion, was one of the best games ever made, but one of its flaws on Xbox was that the enormous open–world map could lag at times as your traveled it quickly. And speaking of Oblivion, Carofano also said that Skyrim is around the same size, but “way more dense.”

Now I have nothing but the utmost faith in Bethesda and their ability to make the best game possible, and I can’t help but assume that if Todd Howard and company weren’t able to deliver a top–quality product on all three platforms, they would utilize multiple discs as necessary.

Still, it will be very interesting to see how this ultimately plays out. If Bethesda pulls off a game like this on one disc it will be an incredible feat, and that Game of the Year award most think it already has locked up will seem all the more likely.

Are you Xbox 360 users happy it will be on one disc, or are you nervous?
