Chalk this one up as confirming the already thought-to-be-confirmed.

Deadline is reporting that, to no one’s shock, Anne Hathaway has joined the cast of the upcoming film, Les Miserables.

Helmed by Tom Hooper, Les Miserables already stars Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe, and will find Hathaway taking on the role of Fantine. The film is set to bow on December 7, 2012.

Having adored The King’s Speech, Hooper is not only a director to really watch, but he’s pitch perfect for a project like this. His sense of style and aesthetic was born to shoot this picture, and with this top notch cast, it should prove quite worthwhile. I’m not wholly sold on Hathaway as Fantine, but the woman does have a great set of pipes, and if this means that we will still one day get our Judy Garland biopic out of her, then I’ll take it. A guy can wish, right?
