As the iconic actor/director’s latest piece, The Ides Of March, appears to be coming back into the zeitgeist in the biggest of ways, what is next for George Clooney both in front of and behind the camera is of the highest intrigue. Well, now we have our answer to this hotly discussed question.
The Wrap is reporting that Clooney will write, direct and even star in an upcoming adaptation of the novel The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History. Penned by Robert Edsel, the book follows the story of a group of art scholars chosen by the U.S. government to bring back classic pieces of art stolen by Nazis during WWII.
The film is being set up at Sony, and appears to be a soft lob right down his strike zone. Clooney has always been a filmmaker with a political bent, and this sounds like something that should fit right into that.
Personally, I have the highest expectations for this sucker, and with the right cast, this could be something truly special.
What do you think?
