Casting will begin immediately on Five Minutes To Live, a remake of the 1961 crime drama of the same name that starred the late, great Johnny Cash.
Producers Joseph and Jack Nasser have reached a deal with Jan de Bont to direct the remake from a script written by Raul Inglis (Transparency, Icarus).
The movie follows two bank robbers, one of which takes the bank manager’s wife hostage while the other presents an ultimatum to the manager: pay their ransom or his wife will be murdered.
De Bont doesn’t direct much, having only helmed action hits like Speed and Twister, as well as not-so-much-hits like Speed 2: Cruise Control, The Haunting, and the last movie he directed, 2003’s Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Most of his career was spent working as a cinematographer on titles like Die Hard, The Hunt for the Red October, Flatliners, Basic Instinct, and Lethal Weapon 3.
