Mars Attacks

IDW Publishing and Topps announced that they would be bringing cult-hit Mars Attacks to the publishing company as an ongoing comic book series with writer John Layman and artist John McRea in tow.

Starting in June 2012, IDW Publishing will be breathing new life in the Mars Attacks series, which started as a 1962 trading card series from Topps. A new universe full of insane action, dark humor and of course, science fiction.

Taking the writing reins of the series is none other than John Layman, writer of the insanely hilarious Chew. Layman seems like the perfect choice for the new Mars Attacks series considering his brand of combining insane, fun action and twisted humor, a trait that is dire in the writer of anything related to Mars Attacks. So, it’s no surprise that Layman is a fan of the franchise. And who better to attack art duties other than industry veteran and Hitman artist John McRea? Absolutely no one. I’m not always a licensed comic book fan, but Mars Attacks is shaping up to be as close to perfect as it possibly could be. Based on the artist and writer, we can assume that the rebuilding of the Mars Attacks universe will be accompanied by several ties to all different incarnations of the franchise. So if you’re a fan, I feel completely comfortable in saying that you’re definitely going to want to read this incarnation.

But if you don’t know much about the series, all you need to know is that this franchise is chock-full of over-the-top action, dark humor, and classic science fiction. So, science fiction fans and comic book readers, alike, need to go to their local comic book stores and go ahead and pre-order or at least put it on your pull list, because you’re not going to want to miss this one.
