Talk about having a great week.
With a box office-topping film under his belt in The Grey director Joe Carnahan has nabbed himself not only a new gig, but one that should leave film geeks waiting rather anxiously.
24 Frames is reporting that Carnahan has been tapped by MGM and Paramount to write and direct the upcoming Death Wish remake. The Charles Bronson classic followed the story of an architect who “morphs into an assassin after his wife and daughter are brutally attacked. Bronson’s character then undertakes a one-man mission to hurt and kill a host of criminals on the streets of New York.”
Personally, given the right lead (preferably Liam Neeson, who would make his Bronson-like career trajectory complete by taking on this role), this could be one hell of a film. I think Carnahan is one of the more interesting action filmmakers around, and could do this franchise a great service. Here’s to hoping.
