A fourth title in the God of War franchise (of the primary games, anyway) has been fully expected since God of War III came and went, with whispers of it picking up recently after a tease by Sony led many to believe it would be for God of War IV.
But before Sony could make the big reveal, Amazon made a bit of a woopsie by putting the game up on their site a day early (pre-order now), accidentally confirming what many were already suspecting.
Sony has since confirmed that a new story in the ongoing adventures of Kratos is on the way, and that it will be titled God of War: Ascension.
You can check out the first teaser trailer for the game below!
The interesting thing about the new game is that it appears to be a prequel story and not actually God of War IV. The interesting part being that a handful of prequel God of War games have already been made, but they were all released for Sony’s PSP; Ascension will be for the PlayStation 3 just like the previous three major releases.
Later this month on April 30th, a live-streamed event will be held at 10 a.m. Central time that can be seen on the PlayStation Blog or the game’s Facebook page. The event will share more details on the new game, and will also include a Q&A session with director Todd Pappy.
Are you excited about a full-scale PlayStation 3 God of War prequel? Or would you rather it was God of War IV on the way?
