Dark Horse Comics will be releasing a new Star Wars Omnibus in June that gathers all of the comic issues of Droids and Ewoks from the 1980s, and Geeks Of Doom has an exclusive preview of what fans can expect with the release. You can view the preview pages in the gallery below.
In the wake of Star Wars: Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi, Lucasfilm began focusing on other projects. The Star Wars franchise turned its focus in licensing new series specifically aimed at children. The results were the Star Wars: Droids and Star Wars: Ewoks animated television shows.
Accompanied by the cartoons, Marvel’s kid-centered comic imprint, Star Comics, began publishing both Droids and Ewoks as individual series, loosely based on the animated shows and the characters from the movies.
The official outline from Dark Horse reads as follows:
Based on the children’s television cartoon series of the same names, Ewoks and Droids explores further adventures in the lives of the Ewoks on Endor and the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO. The Ewoks become embroiled in the dangers of their planet–lizard warriors, underwater kingdoms, magic spells–and the outside world–pirates, invaders, and more!
The droids encounter more than one new master, war droids, megaweapons, time travel, and even Ewoks! This omnibus collects all the issues of the Ewoks and Star Wars: Droids comics series, released in the 1980s by Marvel’s imprint Star Comics.
Dark Horse has accomplished some considerable work in the past with the Star Wars Omnibus series, also republishing the classic Marvel Star Wars comic series in the A Long Time Ago editions, showing their faithful reproductions of the primary material. I’m sure they will treat the Droids and Ewoks content with the same approach as well.
