Get ready to see yet another actor make the leap from performing roles on set to one who will be directing one. Ryan Gosling has been the face of many great films, and soon we will be seeing him in Only God Forgives, a drama which reunites him with Drive helmer Nicolas Winding Refn. Now he is set up to direct a script he wrote called How to Catch a Monster.
Refn isn’t the only person from the Drive alumni who Gosling is teaming up with for a project. For his directorial debut, Gosling has recruited Christina Hendricks for the lead role.
Shock Till Ya Drop noted that the sale of the film commences at the Toronto International Film Festival, and that drive producer Marc Platt will produce the film alongside Gosling.
Here’s how the press release described the film:
Written and directed by Ryan Gosling, HOW TO CATCH A MONSTER weaves elements of fantasy, noir, and suspense into a modern day fairytale. Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, Billy, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive.
It is a bit surprising to see Gosling come up with something like a modern day fairy tale, but it sounds like something that could be a lot of fun to watch. Although Gosling wrote and will direct the film, it’s still unclear if he will have a starring role in it. We also don’t know when he will start filming How To Catch A Monster.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated on the status of this film.
