After a few whispers that the next game in the Call of Duty video game franchise would actually be called Call of Duty: Ghosts and not Modern Warfare 4, publisher Activision has confirmed the new title.
According to the press release sent out, the game will “set the benchmark for the next generation,” and that it will offer a brand new world with a brand new story and characters, all built on a brand new next-gen Call of Duty engine from developer Infinity Ward.
An exclusive first look at the game will be presented during Microsoft’s big next-gen Xbox reveal on May 21st, but for now, a teaser trailer has been released and can be watched below.
Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin had this to say about the announcement:
“Everyone was expecting us to make Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do. But we’re not resting on our laurels. We saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we’re building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players. We can’t wait to share them with our community.”
Call of Duty: Ghosts will be released on November 5, 2013, and can currently be pre-ordered on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, will next-gen console versions coming eventually as well. You can also visit the game’s official site and Facebook for more details.
