A new documentary was announced at Disney’s D23 Expo (read all of our coverage here) from filmmaker Leslie Iwerks, who’s previous credits include The Pixar Story, Industrial Light & Magic: Creating the Impossible, and Recycled Life, a documentary short that scored her an Academy Award nomination. Iwerks comes from Disney royalty, the daughter of Disney Legend Don Iwerks and granddaughter to Ub Iwerks, the co-creator of Mickey Mouse and Oswalt the Lucky Rabbit, and recipient of that now famous letter from ol’ Walt himself back in 1924 excitedly talking about what was going on at the time and Ub’s move out west.
Iwerks’ latest project is not yet titled, but will tell the story Walt Disney‘s legendary group of magic makers, The Imagineers. The Imagineers are a group of exceptionally talented people, the wizards behind the curtain if you will, who brainstorm and create the things that make Disney theme parks and attractions so special. The documentary isn’t to be released until 2016 (that’s right, you have to wait longer for this than you do Star Wars Episode VII), but a trailer for the doc has been released and it looks like a fascinating peek behind said curtain.
You can check out the trailer for Iwerks’ Imagineering documentary below.
