It was only five weeks ago when the news broke that Charlie Hunnam landed the lead role of Christian Grey in director Sam Taylor-Wood’s big screen adaptation of Fifty Shades Of Grey, the best-selling erotic romance novel by E. L. James.
If you’re like me, then the promise of seeing the Sons Of Anarchy star in the buff in some steamy sex scenes made Fifty Shades Of Grey something to look forward to.
Unfortunately, Hunnam has reportedly dropped out of the project.
The good news is, I no longer have to keep this film on my radar. The bad news is, no Charlie Humman sexy sex. Bummer.
Universal and Focus Features released a statement regarding Hunnam’s departure, citing the actor’s busy TV schedule as the reason.
The filmmakers of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.
Really, Hunnam needs adequate time to prepare for this role? As if he wasn’t born for this. But apparently, fans of the novel weren’t pleased with his casting (huh???).
In the novel, Ana Steele – who will be played in the film by Dakota Johnson – is an innocent, unworldly young college student who falls for young entrepreneur Christian Grey, who has a need for control and a taste for the erotic, specifically S&M and sexual domination.
No word yet who will take over the role of Christian Grey, but the film is scheduled to hit theaters on August 1, 2014.
