NYCC 2013: Reign panel

The stars of The CW’s new series Reign made an appearance at last weekend’s New York Comic-Con 2013, where’s the network screened the pilot episode for their historical drama.

Adelaide Kane (Teen Wolf), Toby Regbo (One Day), and Torrance Coombs (The Tudors) were at the panel answering fan questions – check out our large photo gallery here below of the young stars.

The series centers on a teenaged Mary Queen of Scots, who’s been betrothed to Prince Francis of France since she was five. The young queen arrives in France for a wedding, hoping to get to know Philip husband better now that they’re older, but she quickly discovers that her future might not be as bright as she’d hope and that her visit is not exactly safe a one.

Reign is a very well-done show, and it’s vibrant costumes, grand fanfare, and modernized score should be appealing to younger audiences (The CW’s demographic) without alienating older viewers. I found myself immediately wrapped up in this 16th century tale of intrigue and deception and for the most part, it didn’t lose me. (Aside the scene where the famous Queen and her ladies in waiting do a shoe-less palace dance and feathers fall from the ceiling and I thought maybe this would be Gossip Girls 1500s). As with most period pieces, don’t expect all too much historical accuracy, as this is still fiction, but I liked the tinge of the supernatural that they’re hinting at. I thoroughly enjoyed this first episode and definitely look forward to finding out where The CW will take young Mary.

Sex. Lies. Betrayal. Prepare to travel back in time 500 years and watch as the unknown and never-before-told story of Mary Queen of Scots unravels. Joined by her three best friends as ladies-in-waiting, we first find a teenage Mary arriving in France, betrothed to Prince Francis, with a promising future ahead. Unbeknownst to her, she will soon be fighting for survival amid fierce foes, dark forces and dangerous sexual intrigue.

The first episode of Reign airs tonight at 9/8c on The CW.

  1. Just when I thought no one could get worse than “The Tudors”, along comes this utter tripe! For starters, she looks as much like “Mary, Queen of Scots” as my dead grandmother! LESS so, since my grandmother was at least a redhead! Costumes are worse, too! The REAL story is *fascinating* – why can’t they stick with that?? G-d forbid someone might actually get educated somewhere!
