Top 5 Telekenetics

1. Tetsuo (Akira — The Movie):
Tetsuo from Akira

This was a hard decision, but when I thought about the magnitude of what the ending of Akira might actually meant, it became increasingly clear to me that Tetsuo needed to be number one. Stubborn and immature, Tetsuo, at the age of 15, is the youngest member of a motorcycle gang. Perceived by others as a runt, he begins to show signs of his power and he quickly falls into conflict with everyone around him. Due to his young age and the susceptibility of his fragile mind, Tetsuo becomes a danger to himself and everyone around him. As he begins to completely unhinge, we see instances of epic destruction like using his mind to collapse an entire bridge filled with military tanks. The kicker, however, occurs when he has completely changed and mutated, unable to control his powers and levels the entire city of Neo-Tokyo. Whoa. The ending is fairly ambiguous, but some believe — and I am among those believers — that Tetsuo not only destroys the city, but also destroys the world in a “big bang” of sorts and creates a new universe. Holy telekinetic powers, Tetsuo!
