Lucy movie trailer Universal Pictures

Welcome to another Trailer Review wherein I playfully dissect movie trailers and give you serious reasons I would watch or not watch the movie they’re selling.

Today’s focus is on the recently released trailer for Lucy starring Scarlett Johansson in the lead role and Morgan Freeman on backup. Lucy is the product of writer/director Luc Besson’s creative genius. Most movie savvy geeks know Besson as the director/writer of Nikita, Leon: The Professional, and The Fifth Element.

Take a peek below the cut to view all of what his latest woman of action flick has to offer.

What I Learned
Party girl Scarlett Johansson is living the life of the party until she wakes up an urban legend. Sinister people put a sinister baggie of blue drugs into her sexy belly and tasks her to transport it to someplace sinister, I imagine. Some other gangsters decide to play kick the can with Johansson’s still very sexy belly and accidentally bursts her illegal cargo. An action that immediately grants her superpowers. I always figured that Walter White product was top notch but damn. She then becomes a super powered roaring rampage of ‘get this bag of danger out of me’ while Morgan Freeman reinforces the falsehood that human beings only use 10% of their brain.

Why I’ll Watch
It’s Luc Besson adding to his universe of lovely, slight ladies gaining the inner strength to smack down their oppressors with impressive kung fu skills. How could I not watch? Before you smug few yell out Columbiana, I will admit to not being as impressed with that adventure as I wanted to be. In all fairness Besson only wrote that tale. Perhaps there would have been a different outcome if he took the director’s reins as well. Lucy, however, looks to follow in Besson’s grand tradition of writing about hot women tearing down their antagonists with brute strength, rage, and cleverness. You know my weakness, Mr Besson. I’m not ashamed to admit that.

When’s it coming?

  1. This is very much like the movie “Limitless” which I loved. Though in this movie the drugs made her way overpowered to the point she can manipulate time and space.

I will definitely see it because it has all the things I like Scifi, Superpowers, Action, and sexy ScarJo.
