Nathan Fillion has been featured in nearly all of James Gunn‘s directorial efforts, whether it be feature films like Slither and Super or his web series PG Porn. So it comes has no surprise to hear that Fillion would be featured in Guardians of the Galaxy in some sort of capacity. Since we already know how a good portion of the cast will be used, it is safe to say that if Fillion had a role, it be a cameo one. But somehow a rumor got started that he wold play Nova aka Richard Rider. And in the age of social media, you want to get control of something like this before it spreads like wildfire, which is something Gunn did, but he did confirm that Fillion does have a cameo role.
So hit the jump to see his tweets denouncing the Nova role, and what he had to say about the surprise.
Let’s face it, Fillion wasn’t about to give up a good thing. He already has a steady gig starring in Castle, and has said on numerous occasions that he wasn’t going to give that up — not that comments like that will ever stop fans dreaming of him starring in a Marvel film. But as long as Castle remains on air, Fillion isn’t going to be starring in big budget films like Guardians of the Galaxy.
So here is Gunn dispelling the rumors of Fillion playing Nova:
While that is certainly disappointing news, Gunn did say that Fillion does indeed have a cameo role in the film:
The director goes on to reiterate that Fillion does have a role, and if anyone says otherwise, it is a lie.
So what do you think Fillion’s cameo role will be? Will we see something familiar (since Fillion did star in a certain Joss Whedon series) or will we see something entirely original?
Guardians of the Galaxy opens in theaters on August 1, 2014
