Tired of all the same reboots that do nothing to reinvigorate your beloved franchises? Well you are in luck, because Shane Black and Fred Dekker‘s adaptation of Predator is none of that — in fact, it is more like a sequel than an actual reboot.

Yesterday we reported that 20th Century Fox had announced that they would be releasing yet another Predator film with Black directing the film and Dekker penning the script. While reports indicated that this was going to be yet another reboot to a franchise that has many fans, Black cleared the air on what we will be seeing. Now how this fits into the canon will be even more interesting. Hit the jump to see what Black had to say.

The interesting thing about the Predator franchise is how it lacks any form of cohesion. As we previously reported all three films act as their own story, with the alien hunters acting as the only glue in the franchise. So how does Black and Dekker’s Predator fit into the mythology, well here is what Black had to say:

What is interesting about this is that statement gives Black the option of starting wherever he wants, assuming he wants to continue a story. Collider was able to nab the exclusive with Black, who added that he doesn’t like the idea of reboots, but can get behind an “inventive sequel.”

According to the site the director likes “the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button.” Which again, is really interesting considering how disjointed the entire franchise really is.

It should be interesting to see what Dekker comes up with for this “inventive sequel.” I am very eager to see how this iteration of Predator will fit into the mythology, and if they or future directors can expand this world even further. With Black and Dekker optioning to do an “inventive sequel” rather than a reboot, this is something we can be excited about.
