In something that you might have thought happened many years ago, it’s been announced that the late, great Phil Hartman will be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The star will be presented at 6600 Hollywood Blvd. on August 26th.
Hartman is best remembered for his run on Saturday Night Live, his role on the sitcom NewsRadio, and his many appearances on The Simpsons, usually as the voice of Troy McClure.
The then 49-year-old actor and comedian was murdered by his wife Brynn Hartman—who committed suicide a few hours later after she had confessed to some friends and the cops were called—in 1998 after an argument about her drug use.
You can point to numerous great and hilarious examples of Hartman’s work, and you should seek out some of them if you’re too young to remember him, but personally it’s this lesser-seen cameo as a security-turned-tour guide who takes his job very seriously seen below that always jumps to my brain first.
It’s great to see his far-too-short, but memorable career rewarded with a Walk of Fame star.
