Moderator Chris Hardwick introduced the panel for Disney’s upcoming Big Hero 6, their first animated feature based on Marvel Comics characters.

First up were directors Chris Williams and Don Hall, as well as producer Roy Conli. They started working on it and pitched it three years ago, right around the time of New York Comic-Con.

A clip is then shown. Set in San Fransokyo, a slightly futuristic city with a real feel to it, we find young genius Hiro not using his gifts in good ways. His brother, Tadashi, hoping to set him on a better path, lures him to his university lab. “Welcome to the Nerd Lab.” It is there that he is introduced to Baymax, a robotic healthcare companion (kinda resembles the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man), and the other nerds: Honey Lemon, Go-Go, Wasabi (“I spilled Wasabi on my shirt one time people!”), and Fred (who’s not really a student there, just a part-time mascot who thinks science is cool).

After the clip, stars Jamie Chung, Genesis Rodriguez, and T.J. Miller come to the stage. Of her character, Genesis says “Honey Lemon is so me.” She reveals she was on the robotics team in high school, but “I was a welder.” To this Chris Hardwick proclaims “the sweetest anyone has ever said ‘I’m a welder.'”

Jaime Chung said Go-Go was described to her as the Clint Eastwood of the group. And Miller joked that he could tell he was funny when he improvised his lines and pantomimed silent laughter.

The next clip showed Hiri trying to sneak Baymax, whose battery is low and therefore is deflated, past his aunt and blames the noise on the “hairy baby” (Baymax’s name for the cat).

After this clip, out comes Ryan Potter (Hiro) and Scott Adsit (Baymax). Scott said his inspiration for that scene, since he’s only been drunk once in his life, was watching Genesis when she was “completely plowed.” Potter said of his character “He’s a genius, but he doesn’t quite know the direction he’s going.”

Clip three shows Hiro weaponizing Baymax by downloading fighting videos and building armor in a 3D printer. Hiro: “You look sick!” Baymax: “I cannot be sick. I am a robot.”

A fourth clip is shown, where the whole gang is in a massive car chase (although stopping for a red light, using a signal, and wearing seatbelts), against a Kabuki mask-wearing villain.

Chris Hardwick had the audience say goodbye to an onscreen Baymax by shouting, “I am satisfied with my care!”

The movie looks like another winner for Disney.
