Updating our story from Saturday night concerning the death of former Static-X singer/guitarist Wayne Static, the late rocker’s publicist has issued a statement that touches briefly on what Static was doing at the time of his passing and whether drugs were involved. In related news, former Static-X and current Soulfly bassist Tony Campos, with whom Static had been estranged over business dealings, has also made a statement.

You can read both statements below.

HOLLYWOOD, CA (November 1, 2014) – Today is a sad day in the music industry – Front-man and founding member WAYNE STATIC of STATIC-X passed away quietly in his sleep at his home last night.

The couple was getting ready to leave for a Fall/Winter tour this morning. They were to have left the night before on Halloween, but decided they would head out early in the morning November 1st.

The couple, known for partying heavy, had left hard drugs in 2009 and had not touched them since. Static’s first solo album – Pighammer – was a tribute to his new non-drug life and hoped it would help others to get clean from hard chemical drugs.

More official information about his passing will be released in the following days. This is not a drug related incident or an O. D. Please be courteous to his family and wife and leave positive messages~

“The couple” refers to Static and his wife of six years, former porn star Tera Wray. Initial reports had indicated that several of Wayne Static’s closest friends and associates were alluding to the cause of death being a drug overdose. We’ll have to wait and see what the coroner has to say, but at any rate it is still a sad day in the world of metal and our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends.

Here’s what Campos had to say about Static’s passing:

“I’m having a hard time finding the words to express how I feel right now, and it’s taken me a long time to even try to write something.

I knew Wayne for 15 years. Some of the best times of my life were with him. I considered him a good friend.

It’s sad the way our friendship ended, but even more sad that we never got to settle things between us.

Even though we were no longer friends the last five years, I held on to a sliver of hope that my old friend would come back. We were like family: Koichi Fukuda, Nick Oshiro, Erik Fincher, Bruce Reiter, Brandon Webster, Dinkus Maximus, Royal Jensen; we all just wanted our old friend back. Sadly, that’ll never happen.

I feel so horrible for his parents and his brother and sisters. I can’t even begin to imagine what they must be going through. My deepest condolences go out to them. All we can do now is remember the good times we all shared.

Rest in peace, Wayne.”
