The 2009 animated feature The Secret of Kells is one of the real treats you can discover for the first time on Netflix, a wonderful little movie you’ll no doubt be happy you watched. This is solidified by the fact that the movie was nominated for a Best Animated Feature Academy Award, though in an excellent year for animated films that saw it competing with an impressive mix of animation styles including Pixar’s Up, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Princess and the Frog, and Coraline (with Up taking home the Oscar).
Now, five years later, director Tomm Moore is back with another animated flick titled Song of the Sea. The movie features the voices of David Rawle, Brendan Gleeson, Fionnula Flanagan, Lisa Hannigan, Lucy O’Connell, Jon Kenny, Pat Shortt, and Liam Hourican.

SYNOPSIS:
In this enchanting new story from the Academy Award-nominated director of The Secret of Kells, Ben and his little sister Saoirse””the last Seal-child””must embark on a fantastic journey across a fading world of ancient legend and magic in an attempt to return to their home by the sea. The film takes inspiration from the mythological Selkies of Irish folklore, who live as seals in the sea but become humans on land.
Song of the Sea will be released in theaters on December 19th.
