If you stayed throughout every last second of the Star Wars: The Force Awakensteaser trailer, you may have noticed a faint lightsaber sound. The trailer did confirm the return of Stormtroopers, Tie Fighters, X-Wings, and the Millennium Falcon. But it also left us with a lot of questions. Questions like is John Boyega really a Stormtrooper, or is he infiltrating the Empire? Who was the man behind the hood? What happened to Oscar Isaac‘s face? And what is the name of that cute soccer ball droid?
One question we can answer is that it was Andy Serkiswho did the voiceover for the trailer. But it’s been a mystery as to whose lightsaber was activated during the last few seconds of the trailer.
Disney has confirmed that the lightsaber igniting is indeed Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber, the one handed down to him by Obi-wan Kenobi.
Credit to Uproxx for discovering the video. ABC’s Good Morning America broke the news of the confirmation. It should be noted that Disney is the parent company of ABC.
We don’t know the extent of Luke’s role in the film, and it has been speculated that the item attached to the speeder that Daisy Ridley is riding is a lightsaber. But based on the looks of it, it isn’t the first lightsaber that Skywalker wielded. Now what was the purpose of adding that familiar sound at the end of the trailer? Was it just a friendly nod to the original or could it have more meaning? There isn’t a lot to go on considering we don’t even know anything about the film itself other than who is in it.
But at least another one of our questions has been answered. Now if we only could figure out more from the trailer.
