Just a couple of weeks ago the cast of Suicide Squad was announced. The David Ayer-directed film would see Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Tom Hardy as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Cara Delevinge as Enchantress, and Margot Robbie as play Harley Quinn. But there was also a report that WB was looking at Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, or Oprah Winfrey to play Amanda Waller.
Now it appears that they have settled on Davis. More after the jump.
To be quite honest, any of the three would have been fine for the role, but Davis seems like the perfect fit. Now, if Latino Review’s report is true, then WB would have to figure out how to schedule the film around Davis’ How To Get Away With Murder.
Seeing as Amanda Waller is the one who sends the Suicide Squad on missions, it’s unlikely we’ll get to see her on the field. She normally is seen in a command center checking on the progress of a mission. IF that is the case, Waller would not get much screen time, and therefore she can probably knockout her shoot on Suicide Squad so that it could fit into her schedule.
But Waller is also a major character in the DC world as a whole, so there is probably a multiple contract waiting for her if she officially signs on. And if she does, how much of an impact will she have in the film franchise’s universe is unknown.
Suicide Squad opens on August 5, 2016.
