The Suicide Squad

We already knew that James Gunn‘s The Suicide Squad was going to feature a pretty stellar cast, including Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman all returning to reprise their respective roles as Harley Quinn, Amanda Waller, Captain Boomerang, and Rick Flag from David Ayer’s 2016 film Suicide Squad. There’s also been previous announcements of new additions to the cast.

Now Gunn has revealed the full cast for the upcoming movie. See below to the full list and which familiar faces are also making a return.

David Dastmalchian will play Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior stars as Ratcatcher, and Steve Agee voices King Shark. Nathan Fillion, Flula Borg, Taika Waititi, Peter Capaldi, and Pete Davidson also join the cast, although their roles in the soft reboot are unclear. Among the biggest names to join is Idris Elba, who was once rumored to play Deadshot, but is now attached to a new character in order to leave the Deadshot slot open for Will Smith to return in the future, and John Cena, who is rumored to play Peacemaker.

Along with the aforementioned names, the list contains the additions of Storm Reid (A Wrinkle In Time), Jennifer Holland (Brightburn), Juan Diego Botto (La Celestina), Julio Ruiz (Vice Principles), Joaquin Cosio (Narcos: Mexico), Mayling Ng (Wonder Woman), Alice Braga (Queen Of The South), and Tinashe Kajese,

Don’t get too attached. #TheSuicideSquad

Gunn took to Instagram to reveal the full cast list and a title card, which shows The Suicide Squad logo in yellow and pinkish text with bullet holes spread across the word “suicide.” He also had the caption “Don’t get too attached. #TheSuicideSquad,” which pretty much tells us the size of the roles for some of the actors.

The rest of the cast includes usual favorites to appear in a James Gunn films. They are his brother, Sean Gunn, and Michael Rooker, who took to social media to say that he wasn’t playing King Shark as rumored. It’s not clear who either of them will play, or if they will survive until the end of the film.

Filming is expected to begin later this month.

We don’t know much about the film itself, aside from the fact that it is considered a soft-reboot/relaunch. As aforementioned, key characters from the first movie are returning and possibly going to be dispatched for a brand new mission by Waller. It will be interesting to see whether or not Harley is back in prison or just roaming free in the DCEU.

Of course, we can expect to learn more about it and once we do, we’ll give that news to you. The Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 6, 2021.
