Taika Waititi Joining James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’

Actors jumping between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe isn’t anything out of the ordinary. James Gunn Reflects On Disney Firing and Rehiring

Last summer, James Gunn was in the midst of preparing for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the closing installment of the Guardians trilogy. What happened after that can only be described as a whirlwind of crazy. First he was fired by Disney for some old tweets that were dug up. Then he was hired by WB to write The Suicide Squad, which eventually led to him directing as well. Finally, he was rehired by Disney to finish the Guardians trilogy.
The filmmaker, who is usually vocal on social media, has been silent about those recent events. At least up until now. Gunn is now opening up about what has happened to him, how he thought he would never be rehired, and the status of both The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. See what he had to say below.

Michael Rooker Could Be Joining James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ As King Shark

Looks like James Gunn‘s The Suicide Squad may have found its King Shark. As the “soft reboot” nears production, there are rumors that Michael Rooker is in talks to play the deep sea felon who joins the titular villain team on a dangerous mission. More on the report below.
Sources tell The Wrap that Rooker is in talks to play King Shark. Should he sign on, it wouldn’t be the first time that the actor has collaborated with Gunn. He played Yondu, the blue-skinned Ravenger, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ Adds David Dastmalchian and Daniela Melchior

It’s not unusual for James Gunn to include characters who might be considered misfits, outsiders, or troublemakers. That couldn’t have been truer in the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films. But now he is putting together a new cast of misfits in The Suicide Squad. The soft reboot will bring back Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller to reprise their respective characters. They will be joined by Idris Elba, who will reportedly play a new character and not be replacing Will Smith as Deadshot; and John Cena, who is said to be in negotiations for a role in the film as well.
Now there are reports that confirm David Dastmalchian and Daniela Melchior will be added. According to these reports, Dastmalchian will be playing Polka-Dot Man, while Melchior will play Ratcatcher. More on this below.

‘The Suicide Squad’: Viola Davis Returning; Idris Elba Not Playing Deadshot

The fact that we are getting James Gunn films from both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DCEU is a gift. After the director was fired by Disney on their third Guardian of the Galaxy film – but before he was subsequently reinstated – Gunn was brought in to write and direct The Suicide Squad. The new film, which was considered to be a soft reboot at the time, is not loosely using the term, as characters and actors from David Ayer‘s original film are returning. Jai Courtney will be back to play Captain Boomerang, and now Viola Davis will return as Amanda Waller.
However, Idris Elba, who was tapped to replace Will Smith as Deadshot, is no longer being considered for the role of the assassin with deadly accuracy. More on the report here below.

‘The Suicide Squad’ Brings Back Jai Courtney As Captain Boomerang

Before James Gunn can sail through space with the Guardians of the Galaxy for the third time, he’s going to be directing a different kind of misfits in the DC Extended Universe film The Suicide Squad. And though the film is being considered a reboot, with actors like the departing Will Smith being replaced by Idris Elba as Deadshot and other actors like Margot Robbie being rumored to return, it looks like the filmmaker will be mixing in some memorable rogues with very obscure criminals.
According to new reports, Jai Courtney is said be coming back to play as Captain Boomerang. At least that’s what he’s telling us. Find out what he had to say about his “return” below.

Idris Elba May Be The New Deadshot In James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’

It looks like Deadshot will be coming back for Suicide Squad 2, which is now going by the title The Suicide Squad. Just not the Deadshot you know. Will Smith, who was the first to play Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot, was forced to exit the role because of scheduling conflicts. But it didn’t take too long for Warner Bros. to find his replacement. According to new reports, the studio is eyeing Idris Elba to play the role of the sharp shooting assassin.
Not only that, Warner Bros. is “barreling towards the casting process,†as the studio is loving what screenwriter James Gunn has turned in. More on the report below.
